As an impact organisation, POPUP is committed to driving social change. We deeply value the dignity of every person and strive to see every learner:

DISCOVER THEIR POTENTIAL
TRANSFORM THEIR LIVES
CHANGE THEIR ECONOMIC REALITY
RESTORE HOPE TO THEIR COMMUNITY

In pursuit of these objectives we address the following Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s).

ENSURE INCLUSIVE AND EQUITABLE QUALITY EDUCATION AND PROMOTE LIFELONG LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES FOR ALL

Skills development and training is one of POPUP’s key priorities and signature activities.  POPUP provide opportunities for further skills development and lifelong learning for our learners in South Africa. Activities in the current strategic cycle are also oriented towards the development of ECD practitioners, literacy and numeracy for adults, as well as technical and vocational skills training and development.

END POVERTY IN ALL ITS FORMS, EVERYWHERE

South Africa has one of the highest Gini Coefficients (a measure of the difference in income between the rich and poor) in the world. This is aggravated by high unemployment rates, and constrained access to quality schooling. Through POPUP’s interventions and skills development programs, we offer learners the opportunity to earn a living for themselves, often supporting up to 8 dependents.

PROMOTE SUSTAINED, INCLUSIVE, AND SUSTAINABLE ECONOMIC GROWTH, FULL AND PRODUCTIVE EMPLOYMENT, AND DECENT WORK FOR ALL.

POPUP creates opportunities for learners through learnership programmes, increasing experience and employability. Through our enterprise development initiatives, we enable learners to start their own businesses that not only create a job for the learner, but others in their communities. We specifically address the NEETs (those Not in Employment, Education, or Training) to ensure access to education, and employment opportunities through skills.

REDUCED INEQUALITY WITHIN AND AMONG COUNTRIES.

This SDG is addressed because of the work we do to address SDG 1. The reduction of the Gini Coefficient by raising the income levels of unemployed youth and helping learners to earn an income and craft a career path. We specifically help those dependent on grants to access employment and increase their income at rates higher than the national average.
